Lavasoft We recently learned that some of our users ran into trouble trying to download Ad-Aware Free, so we'd like to take this opportunity to pass on that news so you can see why it’s so important to be careful what you click. http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/company/blog/be-careful-what-you-click

A columnist at the News and Observer recently wrote an article called “How To Safely Clear Your Computer of Spyware” and referred readers to Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware software. However, some users ran into trouble when they tried to download Ad-Aware Free. We’d like to pass on that news so you can see why...

              MaryAnne,

Again, to fully understand what problem you are experiencing with Ad-Aware we need to troubleshoot it. Your problem may be caused by an infection or an incompatibility issue between security programs. Have you contacted our Tech Su...pport for help? Please visit http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/ so that we can help you solve this problem.

              Thanks,

While CyberDefender is not listed in Lavasoft's database of rogue security software, the program behaves as follows: CyberDefender will detect some malware on the user’s machine, along with installing the Microsoft Bing toolbar; in order to... remove the threats, the user is asked to pay for a CyberDefender license (in the amount of $29). This program is not in any way affiliated with Ad-Aware, so perhaps you've downloaded this program inadvertently by clicking on an ad on download.com.

We recommend uninstalling it. For help on how to proceed with this, please visit http://www.lavasoft.com/support/supportcenter or http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/

Irv Hamet how often do you suggest I run Ad Aware free? I also have Malware Bytes and that seems to find nothing.

            • Lavasoft Our security experts recommend that you run a Smart scan once a day and a full scan once a week.

            • Angie Dempsey Why is there a check mark after saying update ok and status ok before I run smart scan and full scan. I do it anyway. How often is there update?

            • Lavasoft Thank you for your comment. We are aware of the bug that caused this and we have fixed the issue. The fix will be released early this week. The only part of the scanner that was affected by this issue was the cookie detection. We will notify you about the update when it’s released on the Support center “News”, at the bottom of this page: http://www.lavasoft.com/support/supportcenter/

            • Lavasoft It seems like the date in the log was corrupted. Incorrect time values can have various causes, usually related to the set system clock, time zone or time format. To fix the issue I suggest that you uninstall Ad-Aware, make sure your system time is correct and reinstall Ad-Aware.
              June 30 at 2:07am ·
            • Jeffrey Warrick I noticed the same issue. I just downloaded and installed Ad-Aware Pro 8.3 for the first time. Ad Watch Live says 12/31/1969. My system was and still is correct for the clock. What's up?

‎@Jeanette, Michael, Maycon – Thank you for your comments. Yes, there is always a chance of compatibility issues when running concurrent security software.

With the addition of anti-virus, Ad-Aware Free will not be just a complimentary secu...rity tool – it will be a complete malware solution that can be used to protect your system from spyware, rootkits, viruses, blended malware, and other online security threats.

With that said, at Lavasoft, we always give you, the computer user, the right to choose what's best for your system. In the new version of Ad-Aware Free, you will have the option to “turn off” the anti-virus detection, if you choose to do so.

            • Michael Leona After putting in my comment, I thought about some sort of option to turn it off, which would solve all problems. You confirmed it. Thanks for the heads up.

          Barbara Woodham Lochen

Barbara Woodham Lochen Hey Ad-Aware...Two people have spoken up today, plus I posted on Twitter, still no response from Lavasoft. That seems odd, especially with the generous resonse you gave to Sandra on June 9.

So maybe you can tell me how to do this: I want to install Version 8.1.1 and NOT have it automatically update to Version 8.2.5. I'v...e done 3 installs, 3 restores because it FORCES 8.2.5 version to install. This may be my issue...Seriously, can you tell me how to do this??

            • MaryAnne Johnson its a very bad, uninstallable proram that wont let me uninstall or anyting with my adaware....its a horrendous rogue that you cannot get ri of in any way..also, the issue is not resolved with your update, before cyberdefender took ove, I was still having problems with adaware....its a rogue that will not let you get rid of it, with constant hijacking-seriously, list it. also, go to the support forums, do you see how old the posts are?? IS THERE anyone there??????

          MaryAnne Johnson

MaryAnne Johnson I have gone to your support pages only to find old posts - no one there currently to help as you directed. Again, I am a long time user, I have had the free editions since you came on the web. Just like Barbara, I have uninstalled/reinstalled numerous times. If you run a quick check, it shows nothing found-impossible! ...If you run a full scan, it stops running & a pop up that says an error happened & to send a report to lavasoft-yesterday, cyberdefender, which is on your site came onboard my pc bcuz I thought it was from your company, being promoted by you-VIRUS, HIJACKER. It has taken over my pc & you cant uninstall the freakin thing & NOW it is attached to my adaware program where I cannot uninstall it! We managed to get around a lot, but the cyberdefender folder wont go away & I cant get rid of my ad-aware program to fix what ever your update did-I have had zero problems with ad-aware all of these years & now I am pee'd off over this whole thing!

              Hi MaryAnne,

We just wanted to follow up with you to make sure you were helped with this issue. Your system seems to have been infected by malware or hijacked by a rogue anti-spyware product. Since it is often a very complicated matter to cl...ean a system from these kinds of infections, it is easier for us to help you through one of our other channels - either through the Support Forum, or the Support Center. Please let us know if you need additional help to fix your problem.See More

            • MaryAnne Johnson to be honest, I am fed up with it---I have tried to uninstall/reinstall, now the download wont let me--there are two adaware apps in my program that wont let uninstall---I keep getting errors, etc. Such a shame as I loved ad-aware, used it since you came online....now my pc is f'd up from what ever your update did & also, you really need to add cyber defender to your hijack list, as its this THING that ruined my adaware....thx for checking in.
