Van Buren County Road Commission The Red Arrow Highway and CR 652 North intersection should have the new signal installed this week!

Sue Thank you VBCRC.

Van Buren County Road Commission We would like to take this opportunity to explain mailbox damage in the winter. We understand this can be a touchy subject and we'd like to "clear the air." We will post this in several postings and comments to fit in all the details. Over 90% or mailbox damage is caused by snow and ice that are thrown from the street by County snowplows.

Van Buren County Road Commission Everyone is out plowing and has been since at least 5am, with some out at 4am. We will be plowing each road at least once today. The contractors are out in the subdivisions again today as well.

Vanderzee Motorplex A two vehicle accident just happened in front of the Motorplex as a result of a u-turn. Luckily no one was injured. The traffic study supporting our drive request addressed the issue of confused motorists looking for access along the 2,000 feet area in front of the 2 hotels and the Motorplex.

Van Buren County Road Commission "Don't Crowd the Plow" Safety tip #2: Snowplows often throw up snow clouds, reducing visibility on all sides of the truck.

Van Buren County Road Commission Snow, Snow, Everywhere! Everyone is out plowing and has been for several hours. It is blowing hard, so some roads are just drifting back over!

Van Buren County Road Commission "Don't Crowd the Plow" Safety tip #1: Motorists should NEVER attempt to pass a moving snowplow on the right. With new, wing-plow technology, the blade can clear the shoulder and the lane of travel simultaneously. Motorists attempting an illegal pass through a snow cloud on the right and/or shoulder of the road most ...likely won't see the plow blade and run the rist of a serious crash!

Van Buren County Road Commission We are preparing for the anticipated storm! The crew is running all paved roads trying to remove as much slush as possible before it freezes. This rain has left the gravel roads thawed out, so they are not able to touch them again until they re-freeze (probably tomorrow).

Van Buren County Road Commission Ok everyone, we need your help! PLEASE suggest our page to your friends. We want to get information out to as many people as possible and need your help to build our fan base!!!! The more people we can keep informed, the better, so PLEASE help us out!!

Van Buren County Road Commission We have a tree crew out cutting/trimming trees, there are several trucks out performing ice control operations, and we're doing some additional preparation for the pending weather situation!

Questions about the 73rd St & Phoenix Rd light.
We have received questions about the timing sequence of the new light. This light has cameras that control the individual movements through the intersection. The confusion comes from the fact the old light had all the turn movements and all through movements locked in as on...e movement (eastbound & westbound turns were always together whether or not they had traffic waiting as were the through movements). The new lights cameras look at all the lanes and change the light as needed. For example, if there is a car eastbound turning left but no westbound car turning left the light will give a left turn arrow and a green straight through for eastbound. All movements are monitored by the cameras and given time in the sequence as needed. this way you are not waiting for a preset movement that has no traffic in the lane. This moves traffic faster through the intersection and will help relieve the congestion on the business loop ramp.

Van Buren County Road Commission We made the news! Channel 3 news came out yesterday to see how our winter preparation was going. Click this link to see the video. PLEASE NOTE the 4 and 8" policies that were discussed were for OVERTIME/call in plowing only, we do not wait for 4-8 inches of snow to plow during the weekdays.

" And of course all this snow means that road crews may have to fire up plows for the first time in months. News channel -- Eric -- live in south haven right now with the preparations taking place there."
