Favorite Quotations:
The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss the goal, but that it is too low and we reach it.
About Me:
In 1980, our family moved from Yakima to the Cherry Wood Park apartment complex in the Minnehaha neighborhood. I have very fond memories of our first summer in this community. Mom would pack a PB&J lunch for me and my brother, we’d hop on the C-Tran bus and ride to Leverich Park for summer camp. We played red-rover red-rover and kickball, learned arts and crafts, and splashed in the water of Burnt Bridge Creek.

Like a lot of kids, the fun ended when I got my first job--delivering The Columbian newspaper. What a treat to wake up at 5am to hop on my bike and deliver the day's news! Later, I worked at the front desk of our beloved Red Lion Inn at the Quay. I definitely earned that paycheck, checking in grumpy travelers who had been flying all day. But my Grandma told me it'd "build character" -- and who knew how important that patience and tolerance would turn out to be!

After earning my degree in environmental engineering from WSU,Ii returned to Vancouver and began working for PBS Engineering in Portland. I hated the commute and hated paying Oregon income tax when I didn't even live there. I wanted to work on OUR side of the river. Fortunately, the owners gave me an opportunity and I took it.

In 1999, one of the owners and I opened an office here in Vancouver. I’ve had the pleasure of designing parks, trails, firestations and office buildings for our community.
And now, after a lot of hard work, we are 42 employees strong – 42 good-paying jobs right here in Vancouver!

I go through this whole story to say that the point is, by living and working in Vancouver for most of my life, I've learned a lot of valuable lessons:
O The value of public transit and of after-school and summer programs for our kids;
O Hard work, responsibility and spending within my means;
O Patience and tolerance for differing attitudes;
O Pride in building a local business, and the need to give back to our community.

I know what it’s like living in Vancouver – both the joys and the hard realities. I’m running for Mayor because this is our city. What you care about is what I care about.
