Lebanese LGBT Media Monitor The Lebanese newspaper L'orient le Jour publishes another article labelling homosexuality under appearances and exessive power of consumption in the LGBT community calling it the Pink Dollar. Wait for a translation to english very soon.

Dear All,

I am the person who supposedly is badmouthing and being shallow and disrespectful about the gay community.
1) I am looking forward to reading the english version; i guess the french did not come through, AT ALL.
2) please note that the title says "the tendencies" of the gay community. The expression "tendency" itself suggests a generalization of some sort of trend.... Read More
3) Obviously the standard of living and the sexual orientation of a person are not related. Duh!
What the article was saying is that everything else being equal (social, financial, religious, academic or any other background for that matter), a gay person will spend 30% more than a straight one (you can check tons of websites, try gayresearch.com).
4) I also present the counterargument in the conclusion saying that some people just think that the purchasing power of the gay community is just a myth, and maybe it is.
However, it is one of the only groups who imposed a color onto the dollar (the expression "pink dollar was coined in the States decades ago). If you think that this is outrageous, hmmm... How about you read it again, or not.

Hey Don and Anthony!

Sorry for being late in my reply, I had a lot of work last week.

First of all, I would like to thank Don for his answer to my previous post. Point taken, I fully understand what you mean and, to an extent, I see why you slightly overreacted. Indeed sometimes meaning well can turn out to be harmful. I can guarantee this was not Rana Andraos' intention when she wrote her article, though. ... Read More

Anthony: your perspective has struck me as being very accurate; I previously said I wouldn't tackle the issue because I simply am not an expert on the subject of gay rights. I never meant to debate over the article itself but on the manner l'Orient-le Jour was, injustly in my opinion, attacked for handling it.

Whereas you think the subject was wrongly handled is up to you, as I said your have a couple of points here.

Nevertheless, how about giving l'Orient a break? I invite you to to do some research about the amount of articles published in l'Orient-le Jour related to LGBT events/issues . You might be surprised!

Bon courage, take care guys

This is my call to action. I’m sick of it. We really need to get ourselves together and get out there and demand our rights. We cannot live in a country where we can be thrown in a tiny, nauseating cell ...

yes it is always refreshing to read articles of motivated activists , bekhsous and bareed mosta3jel offered great opportunities for great women to express themselves, reading their stories was a joy. However it is obvious that this article had again one purpose, attacking the work that has already been done ( it says nothing has been done so far). fantastic homosexual is promoting division rather than activism.
