About Me:
Lee Jones was born on March 10, 1951 in Miami County Kansas. He attended public school in Osawatomie Kansas. While growing up, Lee worked in the hay fields of his parent’s farm, a dairy farm with grain elevators. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1969. After graduating, he went to work for the railroad industry and continued to work while attending Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas.

Lee’s academic experience at Baker was truly diverse. He worked on urban study assignments that took him to Chicago, Illinois; he studied at Exeter University in England and worked with the Kansas Youth Rehabilitation Center, which fostered his interest in working with distressed children. Lee graduated from Baker University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.

In 1981, Lee represented his co-workers in Topeka as the Chairman of the Kansas Legislative Board for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He advocated safety in the work place and testified before the Kansas State legislature on tax issues affecting Kansas working families.

Lee worked in Washington, D.C. as the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers’ National Legislative Liaison from 1988 to 1989 and as the Vice President of Governmental affairs from 1991 to 2001. He advocated issues relating to working families, workplace and transportation safety, health issues and retirement security.

On Capitol Hill, Lee Jones fought for safety and fairness for workers and their families. Jones worked with Democrats, Republicans, labor unions and management for the betterment of all workers. He is known for his ability to build consensus among opposing political groups.

Lee lives in Overland Park and is the father of two college-age children. He is employed with the railroad industry and actively helps raise funds benefiting children’s organizations in the Kansas City community.

With all due respect to Lee Jones he had his chance in 2004 and couldn't get the job done. Jones should step aside and give Jim Slattery his due. Sebelius supports Slattery, and Slattery has more name recognition, and experience.

Slattery, who left Congress after getting trounced in the 1994 Kansas governor's race, says he's proud of his private sector work and claims he never lobbied for a position inconsistent with his record in the House. He says most of his income has come from working as a lawyer, not as a "big-time lobbyist."
