Following his '90s fame as the Portishead tour DJ, Andy Smith has gone on to rele...ase a number of acclaimed mix CDs including The Document I, II & III, Andy Smith's Northern Soul, Let's Boogaloo 4, Freestyle Mix and The Trojan Document alongside countless singles and remixes. Andy is one of the hardest working DJs on the circuit maintaining a busy touring schedule, DJing the world over whilst holding down a Saturday night residency at Madame Jo-Jo's in Soho and running his own monthly northern soul night at the Jazz Cafe.

Smokestack favourties and one of the finest funk bands in the north have a party set lined up to celebrate our 2nd birthday. Featuring the talents of musicians such as Wayne Pollock on keys and the mighty Pete Huckerby on vocals, these guys will shake the Roost to the rafters with the heaviest funk you'll have heard in some time - truely music for both ears.

Smokestack is delighted to announce DJ Andy Smith as our new Friday night resident. Starting Friday 9th October, Andy will play our regular Friday club night, Harlem Shuffle, the 2nd Friday every month.

Following his '90s fame as the Portishead tour DJ, Andy Smith has gone on to release a number of acclaimed mix CDs inc...luding The Document I, II & III, Andy Smith's Northern Soul, Let's Boogaloo 4, Freestyle Mix and The Trojan Document alongside countless singles and remixes. Andy is one of the hardest working DJs on the circuit maintaining a busy touring schedule, DJing the world over whilst holding down a Saturday night residency at Madame Jo-Jo's in Soho and running his own monthly northern soul night at the Jazz Cafe.

His busy gigging schedule, prolific CD and vinyl output and crate digging credentials - playing nothing but original 45"s naturally - have cemented his status over the past decade as the UK's pre-eminent DJ across the spectrum of funk, soul, reggae and hip hop. In a slight departure from the sound he's best known for as represented by his Document mix series, over the past couple of years Andy has taken a step away from breaks and hip hop and has even been toning down the funk in the majority of his sets. Ever influential and helping to keep the scene fresh, he has made a decisive shift towards championing a sound that takes in an upbeat blend of jump blues, 50s R'n'B and rockabilly alongside the soul and ska favourites.
