Sherman Robertson is a master of hard-swinging Texas electric blues. Robertson often surprises audiences with his ability to play with a rock edge. "I use that driving, zydeco groove and put blues on top of it," says Robertson. In June 2000, Robertson played at the Pioneer Valley Blues Festival. Alligator records presi...dent, Bruce Iglauer, was in the crowd. "When I saw him he was on fire. He ruled the stage and reminded me of Albert Collins. As soon as he walked of the stage I started talking about signing him. He's got that Texas energy, great guitar chops and is a wonderful, soulful singer."

Andy

Andy A great night last night watching The Small Fakers. My first visit to The Musician, but judging by the list of acts to come, by no means my last.

Hi Maria, you're probably best off booking with the Travellodge if you book well in advance, they generally start off at £29 per room but sometimes have even cheaper offers on. www.travelodge.co.uk

Really pleased to come back to see Sam. He seems to really love this place and enjoy both performing and talking to us in the audience. How nice is that!!!! Thanks :-)

Australian Carus Thompson has built a hard won reputation as a gifted songwriter who never holds back, delivering his songs with an energy, intensity and passion that confirms that although it's an acoustic guitar that he plays – he’s definitely no wilted, navel-gazing “look at his shoes and softly hum" strummer! The s...trength of Thompson’s solo performance has seen open for the likes of Dave Mathews, Damien Rice, The John Butler Trio, Jack Johnson, The Waifs, Seth Lakeman and Pete Murray. In the UK his two national tours with good mate, Seth Lakeman have gained him the most attention and helped him to break out of the ex-pat audience circuit that most other Australian artists in the UK can never quite shake.

In collaboration with Lay-Z-Boi and Cheeseweasel Promotions!

Following on from last year's successful event, we are holding another benefit day to raise money for a great cause, the mental health charity SANE. If last year's gig is anything to go by it should be a fantastic day of live music (and other entertainment!) ...so please come down and show your support, and invite your family and friends too. There'll be plenty of beer and some great bands so what more could you need?

It may be surprising to hear Americana coming from Detroit, a city known for Iggy Pop, Motown and The MC5. But frustration and regret have always been present in great country music and from its bombed-out inner city to its sterile suburbs, Detroit has its share too. Not unlike Exile-era Stones, the band delivers a sou...nd that draws on the melancholy of country and the abandon of rock and blues. Their songs are rooted in the storytelling traditions of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, whilst their melodies reveal the influence of The Band and Gram Parsons.
