The red carpet is out - for the London Bikeathon Awards 2009!
The invitations have been sent and the red carpet has been rolled out…yes folks, it’s time for the London Bikeathon Awards 2009!
Look out your glad rags and get your acceptance speeches ready because on Tuesday, 27 October, Leukaemia Research will be rewarding our top fundraisers from this year’s event.
Over 200 people are expected at London’s glamorous Orchid Club to celebrate the fantastic efforts of all those who went the extra mile in fundraising for the London Bikeathon in July.
As the fizz flows and the canapés make the rounds the awards will be handed out by Leukaemia Research’s London Bikeathon Coordinator, Danielle Morgan – and there’s plenty to go around, including: Top Family Team, Top Company, Top Adult Team and Top Individual Fundraiser, as well as a number of Special Awards, which will be announced on the evening.
We would like to thank everyone who took part again – every penny raised is essential in the fight against blood cancers and we very much appreciate it.
To find out more about this year’s winners … watch this space!

Mother can transfer leukaemia in the womb
Research into an extremely rare case of a mother passing a blood cancer to her child during pregnancy made headline news this week with coverage in the Times, Guardian, Daily Mail and on bbc.co.uk.
With Leukaemia Research funding, Professor Mel Greaves at Institute for Cancer Research published evidence into the science behind how this exceedingly rare phenomenon occurred which proved the blood cancer cells in the baby came from the mother and showed how the baby's immune system failed to destroy the cells.
Leukaemia Research's Scientific Director Dr David Grant says "The important message from this fascinating piece of research is that leukaemia cells can be destroyed by the immune system. Harnessing the power of the immune system to first cure and then protect patients from leukaemia is one of our priority areas of research."
