Dr. Karl Paulnack, Artist/Educator

As an educator for more than two decades, Dr. Karl Paulnack has proved his commitment to a diverse, comprehensive practice of collaborative musicianship. In an address to the Boston Conservatory Freshman Class he states "Music is a basic need of human survival...being a musician, you'...re here to become a sort of theapist for the human soul." Through his work in education, Dr. Paulnack has served as director of the Boston Conservatory's Music Division since 2002 and as the music director and conductor of the Contemporary Opera Lab of Winnipeg. In the past he has co-chaired the accompanying and coaching department of the University of Minnesota, and served on the faculties of the Tanglewood Music Center, University of Southern California, Ithaca College and Music Academy of the West.
