I really detest the massive waste of public funds for a sporting event.

You know, the Greeks honoured the arts as well as sports. There would be competitions in live performance and poetry. Why don't they do that any more? Now it's just sports.

Join Libby Davies, MP (Vancouver East) and Mable Elmore, MLA (Vancouver Kensington) for lunch and discussion with Malalai Joya, renowned Afghani Member of Parliament and Women's Rights Activist.

Malalai Joya has been called "the bravest woman in Afghanistan." At a constitutional assembly in Kabul in 2003, she stood up ...and denounced her country's powerful NATO-backed warlords. She was twenty-five years old. Two years later, she became the youngest person elected to Afghanistan's new Parliament. In 2007, she was suspended from Parliament for her persistent criticism of the warlords and drug barons and their cronies. She has survived four assassination attempts to date, is accompanied at all times by armed guards, and sleeps only in safe houses.

Often compared to democratic leaders such as Burma's Aung San Suu Kyi, this extraordinary young woman was raised in the refugee camps of Iran and Pakistan. Inspired in part by her father's activism, Malalai became a teacher in secret girls' schools, holding classes in a series of basements. She hid her books under her burqua so the Taliban couldn't find them. She also helped establish a free medical clinic and orphanage in her impoverished home province of Farah.

Tickets are extremely limited, and the 2007 Malalai Joya luncheon sold out in no time, so reserve your tickets early by contacting Phyllis in Libby's office at (604) 775-5800 or by email at daviel1@parl.gc.ca. Tickets are only $20. Proceeds to support Malalai Joya's humanitarian projects.

Libby, the real problem with housing in Canada is that mortgage lending has artificially inflated the value of homes. Don't you find it strange that in a country that has one of the lowest population densities in the world also has some of the highest costing real estate? You must find a way to deregulate land so that more of it can be used for people.

You know, the problem is not what you think it is, and no one seems interested in solving it.

Libby let Jack know how proud we are of his principled stands for things that we really need. The EI reform is so important to so many! Thanks for that jack, for fighting for housing and health care, for standing against the war in Afghanistan and being right as usual. We know what you are doing and we are as proud of it as we were when Tommy and Ed and David were taking these stands for us.

Please find a way to count families living in tents and trailers and motels too. Children are being deprived of any kind of future because the BC Liberals do not think putting a roof over their heads matters!

I'm curious about the pros and cons of so called 'homeless counts'. They have been quite controversial here in Toronto. Anyone with any knowledge?

Libby, I/we really appreciate your hard work. Not just today, but everyday. You exemplify what a politician could and should be. Thanks very much.
Oh, a little p.s- theres a documentary out called "the world according to Monsanto" have you seen it?
I'm sure you will find it a little disturbing but this documentary will certainly have it's place in history.

Looking forward to seeing Libby as Prime Minister. Go Libby!!

Monsanto is evil. They should be banned from Canada altogether. NOBODY should be allowed to patent a PLANT, or any other life-form. Terminator technology, or producing genetically altered plants that only produce sterile seed has the potential to destroy the planets ability to produce food.
