And so it came to pass that the Celtic Sage found himself in the Isle of Destiny on the 12th June 2008, the date when alone of all 27 European Union countries, Ireland was voting on whether to ratify the Lisbon Treaty. The treaty, which is designed to help the EU cope with its expansion into Eastern Europe, provides for a streamlining of the European Commission, the removal of the national veto in more policy areas, a new president of the European Council and a strengthened foreign affairs post.
