Library 101 David and I wanted to take a moment to thank the hundreds and hundreds of library staff members and library/info school students that sent pictures and video in for inclusion in the Library 101 Project video. We also wanted to thank the 23 folks who wrote the first round of Library 101 essays.

Library 101 Two Library Journal bloggers have posts up about the Library 101 Project that you might like to read. One, by Roy Tennant is favorable and encouraging of Library 101 and what it is trying to accomplish. The other, by the annoymous "Annoyed Librarian" is decidedly different and includes this quote:

i'm OK with cheesy in general. i really appreciate the concise clarification. i browsed the essays and read the 101 RTK, but nothing sank in. i do think that this project is a worthwhile endeavor and i'm glad to see it happening.

i don't understand librarians that follow the AL's line of thinking. we are not gatekeepers anymore, we are information providers and access points, and the printed word isn't the last stop. the public still has the notion that we are no longer important now that Google is here, and a gatekeeper mentality does nothing to help this because people won't put up with that notion anymore.

new technologies have always opened the doors for new information and access portals. it's important for us to both understand them and how they change society. if we do not adapt to societal norms, we lose a place of importance. i know that supporters of this project already get this, but it scares me that others do not. i guess that's why i want your message to be clear! ... You and a few other folks have added valuable observations and critiques and we are definitely appreciative of that and are paying attention. Most people are really ... But we want to be as useful and effective as we can be and will take lessons learned through comments and dialogue like this to do even better next time. In the meantime, we are happy most people finding it useful and entertaining and appreciate this conversation and your observations.

The launch is connected to a session at Intenret Librarian that starts at 1:30 PST, so if the stream happens it will start then.
