The fourth and final church visit was that of Living Water Church with pastor Peter Mwandu. The improvements to the church building since my previous trip were apparent upon first glance...

So the journey continues. My third stop was End Time Restoration Church. This church is unique in which a pastor Ngumbiu and his wife have dedicated all of their efforts to raise this church together. Upon meeting this couple initially I was immediately inspired by their work...

Last September, I had the privilege of visiting several of LIA’s partner churches in Thika, Kenya. About an hour from Nairobi, this area is rural and extremely poor...

Second Church: Redeemed Gospel Church, Fourteen Falls Continuing on my journey back to the previously visited churches in Thika, Kenya I arrived at the second church; Redeemed Gospel Church of Fourteen Falls...

5 different states, and 6 different churches represented by a passionate and committed team of 11 people...

As I prepare to leave Africa I am flooded with memories and lessons lived and learned over the past month. It has been an amazing experience filled with more emotion than I care to relive. This trip has been different than any other before it...

I was so blessed to be a small part of what J.J. is talking about here! This was a life changing experience. It is impossible for me to return to the "before" after having participated with Life In Abundance. God bless you all, and I thank you for all of the hard work that you are doing.

The discussions and experiences we heard about really did make me think A LOT about Frances' comment that ALL is SPIRITUAL and that we must learn to see that good and evil spirits are present at all times. I think that they have more sensitivity to that because of the open presence of the witchcraft in their society.
The other thing that keeps ... Read Moreweighing on my mind and heart is the TIME they spend in prayer and Bible Study as a part of LIA. That is the first step for me. I do devotions, but not the kind of time they invest in seeking God and his will. I sensed the depth of their devotion to our Lord and I believe that depth comes from the time they spend with him. I am doing more now, but it is still no where near what they do. AND we could see ALL that God is accomplishing through them even though they have so very little to work with... God is blessing their devotion to him by truly blessing the people through them.
I love being home, but I miss the depth of their devotion.

You know, along with all the incredible people that we met in Africa, I think one of the most memorable parts of the experience was seeing the relationship that the Africans have with God. They know Him, love Him, depend upon Him and seek and listen for His guidance. The secular/spiritual connection was such a contrast to religion here in America where we like to keep Jesus chained up in our churches and visit Him on Sundays (unless we have something more 'important' to do.)

One of our fearless travelers has made it safely to its first destination! Southeast Christian Church, located in the beautiful Louisville, Kentucky has given word that our “Urban and Rural Hope” book has arrived! So what was the reaction to our book and its first sighting...

I know, I know, this doesn’t sound exciting, but it is! Every 10 years, First Fruit, Inc., a private foundation located in Newport Beach, CA, assembles their Global Trends Analysis report...

The stickers are printed, the mailers are packed, and 5 of our “Urban and Rural Hope” books are about to become world travelers...

Somalia. A country of Africa only more recently publicized due to the media’s coverage of the piracy that occurred around the Horn of Africa at the beginning of this year...

On Sunday, I returned from Ethiopia to my two wonderful kids and my beautiful wife. They picked me up at the airport and we went to Chipotle. I fell asleep at 7pm while putting my little boy to bed. I took Monday off...

There seems to come a point in every short-term missions trip when the novelty of the host country begins to wear off. Usually this is only a couple days before leaving and the realization that the end is near can be the catalyst to carry you through...

Having spent two incredible and informative weeks working with Life in Abundance thus far as the summer Intern, I feel I need to simply reflect on the power of this model of ministry as I see it...

Last week, a great adventure began for five college students. When most at this age are ready to kick back and relax after a busy school year….Lauren, Courtney, Holly, Daniel and Ben opted for the road less traveled. They headed to AFRICA...

We are so blessed and privileged to be able to partner with incredibly talented, creative, and generous people...

A hot topic more recently circulating in American society has been the current situation of the faltering economy. The state of the United States economy has been characterized by the term unemployment, with many fearful about holding onto their jobs due to major cutbacks within all areas of work...

Our little office in Pasadena just got a little bit smaller. We added a summer intern!! We wanted to to take a moment and introduce you to the newest member of the LIA team, Amy The Intern. Tell us a little about yourself Why hello...

Many people can’t wait to spend time in the sun, lounge by the pool, or grill hamburgers in the park. Others just want to relax after a busy school year or go on vacation with friends and family...

In uncertain economic times, we are incredibly honored to be partners with people who continue to support those who are less fortunate. We do not take for granted those who sacrifice on a regular basis to bring life in abundance to those in Africa who live in poverty...

Fikadu Degisso came from Southern Ethiopia. Both of his parents died of HIV/AIDS when he was very young and he ended up on the streets. Like most kids on the streets, Fikadu tried to mask his pain in various addictions...

I like to learn. Structured or not, it doesn’t really matter. I just want to have my worldview expanded. My understanding of God, Jesus, and the Church - refined. I don’t believe that theology can be static...

At the heart of LIA’s ministry is partnerships with African churches. LIA empowers churches to see the needs of their communities and meet them. That is why the ministry looks so different in different locations...

There is much debate over the origination of Mother’s Day. The early Romans and Greeks had various celebrations honoring goddesses and mothers. Christians historically even celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent in honor of Mary, mother of Christ...

Thanks to the generous heart of Wiley Publishing, LIA’s book Urban and Rural Hope has a two page spread in this month’s issue of Relevant Magazine. You don’t have to click through very far to see the amazing ad created by our friends at Rule29 for this special occasion...

We met Jane through through Revival of Salvation Ministries, a partner church of LIA in the Nylenda slum in Kisumu, Kenya. Kisumu is about 200 miles east and slightly north of Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. Kisumu is set on the sloping shore of Lake Victoria’s Winam Gulf...

This past week I headed out to Chicago to meet with the rest of our team out of Chicago. I kept calling them the East Coast team, but I know they really are more Mid-west. I planned on taking a few videos of the whole crew, but once things got going, we just didn’t stop...

Life in Abundance International was born out of vision our president, Dr. Florence Muindi, had to serve the poorest and most vulnerable individuals in Africa, but in a new way...

For many years I have been journeying through the theological and practical implications of being a western Christian in a world of poverty, famine, disease and injustice...

I wrote a post a while back about LIA getting ready to film a short documentary on street children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia this summer. We’ve asked people to partner with us and the response has been humbling, overwhelming, and encouraging. We made a Cause for it on Facebook...

We met Abebech about seven years ago in Debre Birhan, Ethiopia when one of her children became a beneficiary of the LIA street children program. Her son was on the streets because she was not able to care for him...

…that is worth having you read. One additional purpose that we have for this blog is to expose you to information that pertains to our cause, but isn’t necessarily something that you might come across in the mainstream media...
