Company Overview:
What began as an expat work-at-home mom's effort to use the internet for impact in her new community has evolved over 8 years to include a Ugandan Foundation, telecenters serving war-affected communities in 2 Ugandan cities, and a US non-profit fundraising arm. Together, the LiA network is pioneering new models in interactive micro- philanthropy, non- charity uplift, & transparency standards in online reporting about the impact of online-supported initiatives on the ground.
Mission:
Life in Africa engages the online world in supporting creative uplift and self-help services for vulnerable children, families and communities in Africa.
Products:
Our online activities currently support Ugandan community based programs in 5 key areas:

- LiA 4 Kids: orphan sponsorships, community nutrition, and unique school holiday life experiences for children http://lifeinafrica.com/children/

- LiA CAN!: a Cooperative Artisans Network for craft and artisan skills development and local/global marketing of community crafted products http://lifeinafrica.com/can

- Adult Life: cultural uplift, community learning events and basic literacy/numeracy programs for adults http://lifeinafrica.com/adults

- MicroSuccess!: offers members long term strategies for using micro-loan funds sourced online to achieve bankable family-level financial security http://lifeinafrica.com/microfinance/

- Internet4Change: coordinates independent reporting online about the impact of community based initiatives in Africa that are funded and facilitated through online support http://lifeinafrica.com/i4c

Our current plan is to expand Life in Africa's reach across East Africa beginning in 2009. Life in Africa has been supported by Ashoka since 2001.
