I'm a college student, majoring in English Literature. I am a big reader, anyone who knows me personally knows I always carry a book or two in my bag. I wanted to start a blog with book reviews because ...

Lighthouse Writers Workshop Like Poetry? Like Star Wars? How about poetry about Star Wars? That's right, a full night of poets (many from the Lighthouse Fold) slamming it Lucas-style. To add to the intrigue (though really, who needs more enticement?) Alexandre Phillipe, our screenwriting director at large, will shoot footage of the event for his original film, The People vs. George Lucas.

Lighthouse at the Film Fest
On Saturday, November 21, 12:30 PM
Starz Denver Film Festival
Tales from the Script
$10 Lighthouse member rate (instead of $12)
Join Lighthouse for a day out at the movies with this riveting documentary playing at the Denver Film Festival.
Synopsis: Ever wonder what kind of real-life drama screenw...riters--the often unsung heroes of the moviemaking process--experience? Documentary director Peter Hanson and collaborator Paul Robert Herman have--and from that curiosity comes this tell-all slugfest featuring dozens of Hollywood heavy hitters like William Goldman (The Princess Bride), Paul Schrader Taxi Driver), Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), and horrormeister John Carpenter--all of whom share the glory, defeat, and depravity they have endured while pounding their keyboards.
Suffice to provide samples. From Academy Award winner Bruce Joel Rubin, the writer/director of My Life: “The writer isn’t even at the bottom of the totem pole. They’re at the part that they stick in the ground.” From Stephen Susco: “The Grudge was my first film. It was my 25th screenplay.” And from Dennis Palumbo (My Favorite Year): “A writer friend of mine once described screenwriters as ‘egomaniacs with low self-esteem.’”

Lighthouse Writers Workshop Chris Ransick rocked the house last night! Some of the dreams poems he read, from his new book included those about: sky diving, bad motels, surgeons, wyoming bars, faculty staff meetings, primary school, and more. My subconscious is worn out.

Lighthouse Writers Workshop Advance scuttlebutt: Ransick gets all dreamy with his new collection. Come celebrate tomorrow 11/10, 6:30PM at the Meadowlark. There, square, etc.

My new strategy is this: channel our inner Christian Wiman(who inspired this diatribe a couple years back by yours truly), who wrote such a moving letter for Poetry’s “subscribe now” campaignthat I nearly choked onmy morning coffee. “Dear Reader,” he wrote:
