Listen to Africa

Listen to Africa Any tips for getting two bicycles, six panniers, two bar bags and a large wooden box from Liberia to the UK?! Preferably paying for it from the UK. DHL, FedEx, UPS, ParcelForce etc won't do it for various reasons, and all the freight forwarding companies we've tried so far require us to rent a whole container...

Listen to Africa An update, finally!

www.listentoafrica.com
When we said we were going to take some time away from the blog, we didn’t plan to take seven weeks away – sorry about that. But then we didn’t plan to get quite so ill and get evacuated first from Liberia and then from Ghana. ...

Listen to Africa Going home. Huw's not better so we're about to be flown back to the UK for treatment. (Proper blog update coming soon, I promise!)

Nice of you to say, Bex, thank you. BTW, we were both listed this week in the top ten favorite sound websites at a respectable short film forum, www.theSmalls.com. Your feature film is already starting to take shape! And with the New Year's engagement, and Huw soon returning to full health, you have your happy ending...

Listen to Africa Sorry if we had you worried. Were evacuated from Liberia by air ambulance on Sunday and been in hospital in Ghana ever since. Looks like it was E. Coli (as well as malaria?). Anyway, Huw had jaundice and impaired kidney and liver function, but he's improving every day - should be released from hospital in the next 2 da...ys. I've just been released. Working out how to get our stuff from Liberia, then a long rest! Bx

Thanks so much for all the comments!

Huw was discharged from hospital last night (yay) and is doing OK. (I should point out I've been fine for at least a week and was just kept in for observation - Huw's been the one suffering!).

Anyway, thank you, I've passed on the comments,... See More

Jennifer Gray

Jennifer Gray Hi there, I found this number if you haven't got through yet. +231 77 000 827 or fax +231 77 013 135. It is for the Roberts International Airport. You are probably ahead of the game on this but if not... good luck to getting bike across.

Thanks Jenny. It turned out there were no commercial flights from Liberia for us to be taken on, so they sent in a tiny, propellor-powered air ambulance - which was hand luggage only. We have to organise getting our bikes (and everything else) brought over to Ghana separately but, for now, I'm just glad we got Huw over here quickly (thanks to these amazing folks - http://www.westafrican-rescue.com/ )! Thanks though xx

Liana Rasmussen I am SO excited I just found your site & blog! Your project is absolutely AMAZING! If you make it to east Africa, please consider collaborating with me on my Fulbright photo/video documentary project! I would kill to record audio properly, if only I hadn't spent all my grant money on camera equipment...

Good luck to you... guys!

Listen to Africa Sorry folks, asking a favour in case anyone online now has better bandwidth / headspace than me (likely!): can anyone find a number for Roberts Internationall Airport in Monrovia? Need to find out if they have facilities for wrapping / boxing stuff (our bikes) fairly urgently and not getting lucky with Google... Thanks!

Thanks folks, will pass it on. Now everyone stop being nice - Huw will only complain about the fussing when he sees it :) Chris, being taken to Ghana (tonight), where there are much better facilities.

Thanks all. Teresa - we both started on quinine but when Huw wasn't improving he moved onto Arsuamoon (artemesinin-based). He's still not good - insurance company is evacuating us to Ghana today.

I will. Jack was talking about you the other day. He remembers the big walk you guys did in Lakes Entrance, Down the hill along the beach and back along the lake. I'm sure that was about 4 years ago when he was about 2 or 3. x
