What is SheVaCon?

SheVaCon stands for - Shenandoah Valley Convention

Even though we now reside in Roanoke due to the space we need, SheVaCon actually started in Staunton, Virginia. Which is located in the Shenandoah Valley.

Who are we? What are we?

SheVaCon is a sci...ence fiction and fantasy convention. For those who don't know what a convention of this type is, we are fan's of the science fiction, fantasy, horror, historical recreation genera. Geeks? Nerds? Yes in one form or another but not quite what you think. Not all of us still live in our parents basement and hide from the light of day. We are just ordinary people with ordinary lives, with families who have day jobs. Every once in a while though, we like to take our love for all things some people call "nerdy" and go off for a weekend to enjoy the company of others who share our interests.

Well that explains a little bit but you still don't know what SheVaCon is?

The SheVaCon board of directors is a group of volunteers donating their time and efforts to bring to the fans a chance to see their favorite Artists, Writers, Media guests, Costume makers, FX/makeup-artists or Fan groups. Three days of workshops, panels, events and games all in one place.

800+ attendance and growing!

Our Mission

Our mission is to put on a convention that is not only fun and entertaining, but educational too. Our motto "To Teach and To Learn" is one we have had for 18 years, and strived to maintain. Muilti-media is also something that describes us. We are not just a literary convention, we are not just a gaming convention, or an artist weekend workshop. It isn't just a weekend of Anime or costuming either. We are all that and more! But all in all for us, the most important part is our scholarships. We offer 2 scholarships each year, one in writing and one in art. You can find more information on our scholarship rules and submission forms on the scholarship tab.

Visions of the future...

We have made a few changes in the past few years. To add more to our convention, we have added Fan Groups. These range from the 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, R2 Builders, SG-9, IKV Batleth (Klingon), Vast, and other Historical recreations clubs. Interested in the paranormal? We have that too! Our Costuming Department has also made some changes for the better. With more costuming workshops, it has lead to more contestants in the Masquerade/Costume/Cosplay Contest. Which is more fun for everyone! We are really trying to provide a fun, unique experience for all of our guests and attendees. You might say that there's something for everyone!

If you're still looking for more information? Feel free to browse through the website and check out each of the departments to find out more. Or shoot us an email if you can't find the answer you are looking for and we will do our best to answer your questions.

Leute des Ostens, freuen sich! Ein neuer König und eine Königin

(People of the East, Rejoice! A new King and Queen)

Upon the fields of Carillion, did Brenwen the Faire inspire Sir Konrad von Ulm to defeat all combatants so that they could again join in the Royal Dyna...sty of the East Kingdom.

Twice Prinz and Prinzessin, They now stand ready to again ascend the Tyger Throne. A catherdral, of all the known Saints, on a par with the famed Chartres, will be the setting of this, the beginning of the Reign of Konrad II and Brenwen II.

The Barony of Concordia of the Snows welcomes the populace of the East to this auspicious occasion. In the evening, a fine feast will be set and eighty gentles will have the honor of sitting to dine with Their Majesties.

Pine Park
County Line Road
Lakewood, NJ 08701

Greetings to the Kingdom! This year is the 28th year that the Lakewood Lion's Club and the Barony of Carillion will be having their annual Lakewood Renaissance Faire. Please come and join us for the celebration! The day is free for SCA..., Markland, and Lucern members. All you need is your membership card, a newsletter label, or to answer some easy questions. (See the ***note*** at the end)

As this is being penned we have planned a fencing contest, a heavy weapons contest, an archery contest, as well as a contest in thrown weapons. These contests may break into tournaments at a moment's notice. There is a professional jousting team to entertain, as well as jugglers, singers and other sundry entertainments. This is a public demo during the day, so pomp and heraldic displays are lauded.

***NOTE***: The SCA does not run the entrance gate. Some members of the Lion's club are more adamant about “proof” that you are in the SCA than others. Please, if you do not have a membership card or Pikestaff label available, be prepared to answer questions at the gate such as; ‘Who is the current King & Queen?', ‘Who are the Baron and Baroness of Carillion?', or ‘Who is the Seneschal of the East Kingdom?'. Being in garb is not always a given indication of participation in the SCA at this demo. Many members of the general public come to this Faire dressed in costumes.

*********** I'm not sure what the fee is if you aren't a member - but it is probably no more than $10/pp (see above link for more information !)
