Sunday, November 8, 2009 This morning I woke up to the church bells chiming and the rain falling on the roof above my head. After I got out of bed, I stood at the window with my legs leaning against the radiator as it was warming up. The sky was a blanket of grey with the outlines of a few clouds...

Friday, November 6, 2009 While the sun was setting behind the tall buildings in my neighborhood, I walked up via dei Neri and then up the street between the Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio to meet my friend Lucia. We had planned to go to the first presentation of Jane Fortune's latest book, "Invisible...

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 I had been looking forward to seeing the play The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter for weeks. Not just because it was going to be in English, but also because my friend Claire was going to be performing in it. The play, which was produced by Performance International, was ...

Sunday, November 1, 2009 Before having lunch with my suoceri (in-laws) today, I had time to run in centro (downtown) to check out the piazza around the Duomo that they made pedonale (pedestrian) last week. With my macchina fotografica (camera) around my neck, I left our apartment. I only had an h...

Oh my! How strange but nice indeed! I wonder if the walls of the battisterio and duomo will be maintained cleaner now that buses are not running along side it every few minutes! I really hate to see all the black grimy pollution on it.

Sunday, October 25, 2009 By 10am this morning I was walking down via dei Neri toward the Uffizi. I had planned to visit the Palazzo Vecchio because today is La Giornata del Fiorentino (Florentine Day) when they offer free visite guidate (guided tours) for residents. But because it was only a clou...

Great writing as always, not to mention very good news. I thought three years ago when I was living there that the Piazza ought to be pedestrian. Now it is? Glad to hear it!

Liked your write up. Big question, what kind of car is that?

Thanks, Carl and Gilbert! As was expected, people love the new piazza, but hate the traffic all around the city, which has worsened considerably.
The car is a Pavesi. You'll have to google it as I'm not an expert on cars.

Living in Florence, Italy -- Melinda Gallo Latest "Expats in Florence" article has just been published in The Florentine!

Source: www.theflorentine.net
Florence is home to many expats: those who have longed to live here, those who have found love and moved here, and those who have come to Florence and felt immediately at home here. Many people arrive here at a point in their lives

Thursday, October 22, 2009 I had been looking forward to this day for a long time. I signed up to go on a guided tour of the Jewish Synagogue in Florence, organized by The Florentine. After living in Florence for many years, I had never visited the sinagoga (synagogue) before. I had made plans a ...

Did you know that the only "modern" statue of the Loggia dei Lanzi was made just a few meters from Mama's??? Pio Fedi worked at his studio in Via de' Serragli on "Ratto di Polissena."
