USU Department of Wildland Resources There were 14 students representing USU at the meeting. We had teams compete in both the Plant ID and in URME. Kyler McCarrel took second place overall in the Plant ID contest and Chris Jorgensen placed third overall in the URME. Also, Levi Bennington and Chris Jorgensen were this years Utah SRM scholarship recipients.... Congrats to all three guys! Students not only competed in the contests, but interacted with range professionals from around the state. Club members also traveled to Milford where we toured the Milford Flat burn and the reseeding and also a wind farm in the same area. Club members visited with Mark Nelson, the Beaver County Extension agent and Mike Yardley, a local rancher, who led the tour for us.

Coming up Saturday 14 November 2009 is an opportunity to get involved with a service project for club activities. The service project is going to be in Hyrum a town just south of Logan. We will be building fence around a local farmer's haystack. Purposes of the fence are to keep deer/elk from eating his hay during t...he winter months. This is considered a human/wildlife conflict so the DWR is offering Dedicated Hunter hours as well. If you are a Dedicated Hunter and are in need of some hours contact Corrie Wallace at 435-730-4070 for more information. Being a Dedicated Hunter is not mandatory for this project, in fact we would like to get as many people to get involved as possible. We will be meeting at 8 AM Saturday 14 November 2009 at the northeast corner of the Natural Resources building, by the dumpsters.
Please bring the following if you can:
-Work gloves
-Tamping bars
-Fence stretchers
-Wire cutters
-Hammer
-Pliers
-Lunch
-Water
Hope to see you all on Saturday.
