JOSH T PEARSON (Denton, TX)
In 2001 Pearson's band LIFT TO EXPERIENCE brought out a classic album at the first attempt in the magnificent 'Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads'. Drenched in spookiness and feedback, that album pushed the concept of southern gothic forward a mile or two.
Since then, Pearson has committed nothing to... release (apart from a few home recordings occasionally available at live shows), but his enigmatic appeal is still on the rise almost a decade later having been invited to play his unique take on country-blues at this year's All Tomorrow's Parties and End Of The Road festivals.

TENEBROUS LIAR
Dark and demented roots-flavoured avant rock.
'Tenebrous Liar make a stand for mavericks everywhere. The rotating members, centred around mouthpiece Steve Gullick, tailor their exquisite avant-garde Americana to suit the occasion, with a living music that fills every corner of the room' - NME
'Musically their second album Last Stand recalls Shellac, Liars and Nirvana at their most bloody-minded and amusical.' -
The Quietus
NME

DUKE GARWOOD
South London avant blues-jazz-rock with new album 'The Sand That Falls' out now on Fire Records.
'Duke is one of the more intriguing characters lugging his six string out into the woods!' Wire Magazine
'explores crannies where unusual experimentation lies amid the dust of tradition' - NME

Fireworks of Your Mind!!!!!!
BETH JEANS HOUGHTON (Newcastle-upon-Tyne)
Its a pleasure to present one of the success stories of this summer's festival season and a name we know you'll hear much, much more of in 2010.
Still just 19 years old, she has supported Tunng and Tinariwen on tour, collaborated with Vetiver, John Mar...tyn, Bon Iver, Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom, and recorded the Golden/Nightswimmer single with Adem.
Tonight, BJH will be playing with a full band in a great bill of folk and experimentation.
'Mesmirising Psyche Folk' - The Independant
'Glam Folk Genius, A Legend in the Making'- NME
she could easily be dismissed as just another kooky songstress were it not for the quality of her music and voice, a light, airy instrument capable of conveying delight, astonishment and sorrow, often in a single song. The Guardian
www.myspace.com/bethjeanshoughton
ANIMAL HOSPITAL (Boston, MA)
...is Kevin Micka's one-man musical recording/performance entity. Formed at the tail-end of Micka's time with Boston band The Common Cold, Animal Hospital slowly began to take on a life of its own in 2004. Since then Animal Hospital's albums and live shows have won followers from all corners of the music world, earning himself spots on tours with bands as diverse as Beirut , Neptune, and the tech-grind metal group The Great Redneck Hope.
During performances, Micka buries himself in a pile of electronics-shelves of effects, mixing consoles, amps and delay units-while patiently constructing a layered nest of loops consisting of live drum beats, guitar chords, scrapes, chucks, chimes, and melodies resulting in anything from more conventional songs to meticulously crafted ambient movements on to full on improvisation.
Memory is pretty much the coolest experimental record I have heard, probably since that Fun Years record. Micka is a multi-instrumentalist of the highest quality and in the years proceeding Memory has honed his skills in a live setting by playing and looping his instruments into effervescent concoctions that sound like the work produced by a four piece band (and a talented one at that) Forest Gospel

IVAN INK + PEN (London)
Solo south Londoner playing atmopsheric sounds mixing up US alt icons like Smog and Polvo.

***GIG OF THE MONTH***
We've been waiting ages to confirm these fun-loving, classic-rocking DFA signings and they're about to hit the UK in a blaze of glory. Check out this vid:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=thWJ53kS43U
FREE ENERGY (Phialdelphia, PA)
Newly signed to DFA Records and produced by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, FR...EE ENERGY rose out of the ashes of much-loved Minneapolis slacker indie band Hockey Night. The result of these forces merging is a one tight hi-fi band with head-throbbing bass lines, epic guitar solos and a nod to classic artists like the Allman Brothers and Thin Lizzy as well as keeping some indie playfulness on tap.
FREE ENERGY are a band to sweep aways the cobwebs of the 'noughties and a pointer toward the exciting new sounds of the teen decade.
'The first rule to Our Band Could Be Your Life is making sure the band is the band’s life, and for Free Energy, you know it’s everything.' - The Fader
'a total car radio summer jam, a chugging singalong that could make a hell of a sitcom theme (a good thing!).' - Pitchfork
www.myspace.com/freeenergymusic
BARRINGTONE (London)
Supergroup of sorts featuring Barry Dobbin (ex-Clor) and Boomer (Plugs) that we only wheel out for special occasions just like this one.
a sonic miasma of bizarre urge-driven splendour-Rough Trade
a jerky post-punk take on the classic pop song-Clash
If Frank Zappa had ever bothered to write a hit single, it might have sounded a bit like this' - The Guardian
'breezily sprightly synth-pop in a slightly Devo-shaped mould'-Drowned In Sound
'It’s heady, brainf*** stuff, but all the better for it' -The Times

TELEKINESIS! (Seattle, WA)
Signed to the mighty Merge label in their native USa (and Morr over here), Telekinesis are a new pop force to be reckoned with. Produced, engineered, and mixed by Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie) their album has sparked great reviews and prompted a waiting fanbase for this their first UK tour....
'This is one of those little American indie gems that’ll never break into the T4/Radio 1/MTV axis of evil, but which people who discover it will cling to like a lifebuoy in a sea of shit... this is immediate power-pop full of an exuberance notably lacking amid guitar bands on these shores at the moment. ‘Tokyo’ is a rip-roaring early-Strokesy song which uses an excitable melody to express just how much he likes Tokyo, ‘Coast Of Carolina’ is The Shins meets The Knack and ‘Great Lakes’ a tasty wad of Vaselines. Simply put: an album stuffed with great, joyful songs.' - NME
www.myspace.com/telekinesismusic
THE ROSEBUDS (Raleigh, NC)
Another Merge Records act, The Rosebuds defy categorization with each new release, like creatures in a myth shifting shape to avoid capture; slippery catfish in a North Carolina river. Mention The Smiths and Ivan will turn his Morrissey croon into a gruff Greg Dulli growl or splash it against some reverb-laden surf guitar. Call them southern gothic and they'll release a dance record. They do not spend time categorizing themselves, each record is simply evidence of new curiosity.
On Life Like (2008), The Rosebuds return to more acoustic territory, barely a year after releasing the synth-heavy dance pop of 2007's Night of the Furies.

IMMACULATE MACHINE (Victoria, BC)
...is an indie-rock band that lives on an island. In order to be able to travel freely to and from their geographically isolated homeland, they make rock albums.
Inspired by sweat, dancing, love and political dissent, Immaculate Machine is a tight trio that sings in three-part harmonies ...and strangled shouts above crashing drums, catchy keyboards and electric guitar.
Their latest recorded offering 'High On Jackson Hill' (Mint Records) produced by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain), is their most spontaneous sounding yet and bound to win over a slew of new fans on this tour.

STAINED GLASS HEROES (Brixton)
Having just completed their (long-awaited) excellent debut album for Fred records, these local contemporaries of Hot Chip regroup to blast out their clever blend of dancepunk.
'Taking their lead from Magazine and Talking Heads, Stained Glass Heroes’ mission is to make pop interesting again. Their method: drill down Krautrock, post-punk and traditional Turkish music into three-minute pop diamonds.' - Wheel Me Out
