South London Gallery This new video work by German artist Susanne Bürner will be presented at a special evening event at the SLG.

'LEAVES' reveals an empty stage alluding to an anticipated action. Using elements of cinematographic language such as long shot sequences and depth of field, the film portrays the sensation of prolonged suspense.... 'LEAVES' presents a stage surrounded by trees as a pre-defined location of action in which nothing is performed. In this way the set becomes the negative image of the missing action.

South London Gallery As part of 'Neighbours' the SLG in collaboration with the French Institute presents two films by Bertrand Bonello followed by a Q&A with the director.

'Cindy, The Doll is Mine' is a short film inspired by a photograph by Cindy Sherman. A brunette takes a photograph of a blonde and, through the two characters being playe...d by Asia Argento, Bonello explores ambiguity and doubling.

In 'De la Guerre' (2008) Mathieu Amalric plays Bernard a film director whose research for his latest film involves asking an undertaker if he can spend the night in his funeral parlour. Accidental incarceration in a coffin proves to be a life-changing experience. A meeting with a mysterious man leads him to a country mansion, ruled over by an androgynous Asia Argento, where investigations into true, unfiltered spiritual, mental, and physical pleasure are the principal activity. As he dives deeper into his psyche, people come to take him "home," people dance, swim naked, wear masks and get shot... Inspired by Georges Bataille's writings and by Carl von Clausewitz's war strategies, the film is a subtle yet complex tapestry that reflects Bertrand Bonello's fascination with doubling, metamorphosis and ellipsis.

Bertrand Bonello is a French film director, composer and musician who divides his time between Paris and Montreal. His acclaimed film Le Pornographe (2001) won the FIPRESCI prize at the Cannes Film Festival and Tiresia (2003) was nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Other films include: Qui Je Suis (1996), Quelque chose D'Organique (1998) and My New Picture (2007).
