Long Beach Camerata Singers is a community-based choral organization that promotes excellence in the choral arts by bringing to its audiences and communities a broad spectrum of music performed at a high level — including great masterworks, new, and rarely performed works — through concerts, recitals, educational programs, and community outreach.
A 45-voice voice ensemble, the Long Beach Camerata Singers began in 1966 under the baton of Frank Allen. In 1973 the Singers began the Long Beach Bach Festival, and in 1983 Dr. David Wilson became the new artistic director, introducing major choral/orchestral works into Camerata’s repertoire. From 2005 to 2009 Long Beach’s own Dr. Jonathan Talberg was the artistic director. In his short tenure, Dr. Talberg led the Camerata Singers on a successful European tour, created a core of professional singers to raise the artistic level of the choir even further, and expanded the repertoire and programming to provide a more diverse range of performances. With the 2009-10 season, we welcome Dr. Robert Istad to the podium, and look forward to more innovative programming and a bright future.
