DNJ Gallery DNJ Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition “Aqua & White” featuring the photographs of Maria Luisa Morando. Gallery II presents “Going Home: Toronto” displaying unique acrylic and photographic works by Annie Seaton. These exhibitions will run from November 14, 2009 through January 16, 2010. so please st...op by for a visit!

Maria Luisa Morando's latest series, "Aqua & White," continues her exploration of the sea and the landscape of the California coast that she began in 2007. Her large-scale, meditative photographs entice the viewer to pause and experience a world without clutter. Her intentionally overexposed images erase the distracting details in the landscape and provide breathing room to savor the moments that the images evoke. Without surplus details, other senses are activated, making it easier to hear the waves, feel the heat of the sunlight and taste the salt air. Like memories, her images are both familiar and elusive. Her timeless photographs capture a series of moments and allow the viewer to explore the emotions that ebb and flow within them.

In her first solo exhibition at DNJ Gallery, "Going Home: Toronto," Annie Seaton extends her practice as a painter to create unique mixed media works which combine photographic elements with brushy washes of acrylic inks. This series examines the artist's memories of, and emotional response to, her hometown in Canada. The images in "Going Home: Toronto" provide a sneak-peek at the people and places that lie in the artist's thoughts and memories- allowing her to then fill in her own blanks with paint. As she explains, "I document Toronto as one views a fond lover and as a place representative of a more innocent time."
