Congratulations to our 14th Dog of the Week, Poland, a snowy white, year and a half old, German Shephard. Poland was discovered wandering the streets of Chinatown just over a month ago, and given her forever home by a kind and generous downtown resident.
Poland now enjoys strolls through the park on her a leash (obviously no problems here, look how comfortable she is!), accompanied by lots of love and attention.

Great Egret sighting at Los Angeles State Historic Park!
A Great Egret visited the park this morning, slowly, deliberately searching through tall Deer Grass and under Arroyo Willows.
A large white heron, the Great Egret is found across much of the world, from southern Canada southward to Argentina, and in Europe, Africa..., Asia, and Australia. It's the largest egret in the Old World, and thus has garnered the name Great White Egret.
We're hoping winter rains will again create a seasonal wetland in the park, and that visitors like this will make more frequent appearances.

The River is changing seasons, and soon most of the green will be replaced by the browns and grays of winter.
The walk begins at the LA River Center & Gardens and continues over the bridge to the River Path (where the Glendale Narrows end, and the River is paved). Guides from Friends of the LA River will discuss the Ri...ver Center displays with historic photos and a comprehensive narrative. During the tour you'll see Stilts, Mallards, and other birds in the shallow water just south of the natural bottom section of River. The walk will continue north, to Duck Park, where larger bird (Great Blue Herons and Snowy Egrets) sightings are more common.
River Walks are on the third Sunday of each month, and FoLAR requests a $10 suggested donation for folks who aren’t yet members of FoLAR. To become a member, visit http://www.folar.org/. The walk begins at 3:30 pm during the winter. Walks last for an hour and a half and are led by a FoLAR staff or board member. Come ask your River questions and get introduced to a new section of River each month!Read More
