Romancing Your Soul
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary peruse means to examine or consider with attention and in detail. Have you thought what a difference it would make if each of us assumed responsibility for actually perusing our lives rather than skimming through?
One day I asked myself this question. I was stressed, hurried... and felt disconnected from myself and life. I genuinely wanted to know why I was choosing to experience life as if I were a stone that was tossed out across a lake, touching down then skimming above the water, over and over. The moments I was above water and not truly immersed in what was happening in the present, far outweighed the times I was. So I slowed my mind and asked, "If I am not devoted to immersing myself fully in life's waters, by examining and considering myself with attention and in great detail, then what is my reason for being?" Romancing Your Soul
Walking back from a neighborhood coffee shop I witnessed a driver stopped in the middle of the intersection talking on the phone. After the light turned red she proceeded further out into the intersection to make an illegal U-turn. The oversized SUV was too large to make it on the first try so she had to back up and ...move forward repeatedly. Drivers with the green light laid on their horns while pedestrians were forced to remain on the sidewalk. Oblivious, or totally uncaring, she chatted on the phone and continued her self-serving maneuver.
If the woman in the SUV had chosen to remain stopped in the turn lane, or turned left and circled around the block, then she would have behaved in a manner that resulted in the greatest good for everyone involved, including herself. She had the power, through a considerate choice, to positively affect her life and the lives of dozens of other people. The decision to create a win-win was entirely hers to make.
To live each day in ways we are proud to remember requires being responsible for the trickle-down effects of our actions. Regardless how anyone else chooses to behave we can intentionally strive to create a win-win. This is the option that always leaves us most proud of our behavior. (From Live Each Day...) Blessings.
