Luling, LA – October 16, 2009 – More than 100 students attending Luling Elementary School in St. Charles Parish will take part in "Science is pHun," with a visit from Louisiana First Lady Supriya Jindal and representatives of The Dow Chemical Company.
Mrs. Jindal will engage third, fourth and fifth graders at Luling Ele...mentary School before introducing Dow representative Matthew Mechana, an environmental health and safety delivery technician, who will perform “Science is pHun” experiments for the students.
"The Dow Chemical Company is once again honored to partner with the First Lady’s foundation, The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children," said Tommy Faucheux, Dow Public Affairs Manager. "Visits such as this support Dow's dedication to building strong educational foundations and underscores Dow's drive to continually seek the best in everything we do.”
Dow, a platinum member of the Foundation, offers this program to emphasize the importance of science and math in a child’s education. The two-hour “Science is pHun” presentation shows that science is a part of everyday life and demonstrates the utility of chemicals through experiments that are not typically done in the everyday classroom. The presentation will end with students enjoying ice cream they made with the help of liquid nitrogen.
“Students at Luling Elementary School will greatly benefit from this hands-on presentation,” said Rochelle Cancienne-Touchard, Director of Public Information, St. Charles Parish Public Schools. “Our on-going partnership with Dow St. Charles Operations continues to play a role in developing our students’ skills in the area of science inquiry."
