Italy vs Spain ~ the battle for musical mastery
5pm, Sunday 23rd November 2008
Crafers Church of the Epiphany
Starring Lumina Vocal Ensemble, narrator Keith Hempton and introducing Adelaide's newest musical ensemble, LYREBIRD!
On Sunday 23 November 2008, Lumina Vocal Ensemble and Lyrebird Consort will deliver an inspiring ...insight into the musical masterpieces of Spain and Italy, contrasting pieces from the same period for each country.
The wonderful narrator Keith Hempton will provide insightful background and poetry to introduce the stories being woven around the development of Italy and Spain in these periods.
When we think of some of the cultural juggernauts who have changed the face of the world in the last millennium, two names that stand out are Italy and Spain. Gesualdo vs his Spanish contemporaries, Victoria vs his Italian contemporaries – we'll perform pieces from the same period performed back to back to see who really stands out!
Showcasing music from the 13th to the 18th centuries, exploring themes of War, Love, Angels and the Virgin Mary, to illustrate the sharing of new musical ideas between two great cultures. Featuring pivotal composers including Landini, Morales, Palestrina, Flecha, Lotti & the prolific Anon! Introducing exciting new instrumental sounds combining shawm, flutes, rebec, harp, oud, vielle, viols & lute.
Also premiering a brand new work by Anna Pope, intertwining all ten surviving pieces from the Montserrat Codex - DON'T MISS IT!
