Appalachian Outdoors Adventures Backpack Packing tips - Load sleeping bag at bottom, keeping heavier items above your hips. Add tent and clothes you won't need during the day. Then put food, cooking gear and water higher in your pack close to your back. Pack raingear, and extra layers on top. Headlamp, snacks and other small items in the lid pocket for easy access.
