Our vision is that all children will enter school with the necessary early literacy skills to be successful. Each child, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or gender will have daily exposure to books and reading.

has begun working on a number of projects made possible through funding from First Things First (www.azftf.gov). Through these projects, we will be placing over 11,000 new hardcover books in childcare settings and offering 15 trainings to childcare providers throughout Pima County between now and June 30, 2010. MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS would like to welcome two more new staff members, Noel Hennessey and Emily Phy! Emily has just completed an AmeriCorps term with us, and will now be the Preschool Program Coordinator. Noel joins us as our Family Literacy Specialist. Welcome to both! We are excited about all of our growth this summer and are sure these two will help this growth continue!
MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS Children will be treated to a very special story, complete with appearances by larger-than-life book characters, and they get free books to take home. Parents learn simple, effective early literacy strategies and read aloud tips to help their children gain early literacy skills. Plus, everyone enjoys free food and beverages!

MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS is enjoying a very busy start to fall! Our first RIF distribution is in a couple weeks, Story Town planning has begun, Days of Caring volunteers are giving us a hand around the office, and new Blue Book Houses are making their way out into Tucson! Whew! Early Literacy is all around us!
MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS had a blast last night at the El Pueblo Family Read Aloud Night. Over 50 parents and children were in attendance for an evening of fun stories, songs, reading tips, and pizza!
