Important change: When searching for Pinyin words, do not use spaces to separate the individual syllables. This will work: nihao, beijing, zhong1wen2 This won't work: ni hao, bei jing, zhong1 wen2 Pinyin word searches now behave the same way as Chinese words searches....

@Anthony: I'm sorry, were not planning a Linux version at the moment

@Derrick: The non-popup with Ch, PY and Eng is a bit of an oddball indeed. Before all of these just had the name "Annotate", the question is however: What would a first time user expect seeing the word "Annotate"? Would a first time user understand that "Annotate" would allow you... Read More to do fancy schmancy popups? What if I'd call it "Inline/popup annotation"? Or any other suggestions?

@Cheny: On the main page, click "Look up All Chinese Words in a Text", then you'll find it as on option, there's even an arrow pointing to it "<-- text annotation moved here"

Yah, that set-up makes more sense to me!
I personally think that "inline annotation" is the best part of the site and should be more prominently displayed... but that's probably because I am translating articles above my skill level.
It looks really good, Thanks MDBG!

Currently about 12% of the visits to the dictionary website are using IE6. Which is rather surprising since Microsoft already released 2 new major versions and plenty of free alternatives (like Firefox) are available as well.

Time to switch! ;-)

Some people don't care for updates. When it works it works. Those are the people still using IE6. There are also companies using windows 2000 which apparently does not allow for IE upgrades... and those companies in their turn don't allow alternative browsers to be installed...

A lot of Chinese students have the same problem: they can’t remember the tones of Chinese words. The pinyin sticks in mind, but tones are simply not something we are used to remember. Expressing tones with colors brings an additional way for associating a word with a tone.

A lot of words in the dictionary now have Classifiers (also called Measure words) added to them. You can recognize them by the 'CL:' prefix, for example: CL: 個|个.
