Legal Writing Institute (LWI) The Legal Writing Institute will present workshops for new writing faculty and adjunct professors who teach legal research and writing. The workshops will be held in Chicago and New York on Friday, December 4, 2009.
Legal Writing Institute (LWI) Save the dates for the next LWI Conference: June 27-30, 2010 at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort in Florida. Presentation proposals are due by June 15, 2009.
Legal Writing Institute (LWI)
This year LWI will present the annual Golden Pen award to the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) based on the work they do to help attorneys general deliver high quality legal writing in their briefs. The representative at the ceremony will be Dan Schweitzer, the project counsel for NAAG’s Supreme Court P...roject – an initiative that helps AG’s who normally handle state appellate matters prepare for their arguments in front of the United States Supreme Court.
The Blackwell award, co-sponsored by both LWI and the Association of Legal Writing Directors, will be presented to Professor Linda Edwards, based on her glittering career in legal writing. Linda has undoubtedly touched the professional lives of everyone who has taught legal writing from the 1990’s forward. Her books, her articles, her presentations and her mentoring skills have made an enormous impact on the field.

LWI kicked off its 25th Anniversary Celebration at the LWI/ALWD Reception held on January 9, 2008 in San Diego during the annual meeting of the Association of American Law Schools. (The photo here is from the 2003 Golden Pen Award that was given to Linda Greenhouse at the National Press Club in Washington DC).
The Gold...en Pen Award will be given to the National Association of Attorney Generals and the Blackwell Award will be given to Professor Linda Edwards.
