Description:
Earth Month Naturalist Paddle and lock-through of Claiborne Dam

This is going to be a great adventure on the Alabama River. Birds, stories and geological history abound on the sandbars an...d campsites in this region. Join us in an easy (16-mile total) two day supported flatwater tour.

This trip near Claiborne Dam promises to exceed last year's. The excellent US Army Corps of Engineers Isaac Creek campground will be the focal point for group camping, meals, entertainment and shuttles. Registration begins for early arrivers Friday night , April 3rd, who should bring a do-for-yourself Saturday morning breakfast snack (we'll do the coffee). We'll gather Saturday morning to shuttle to Haines Island, where the tour will officially begin. The rest of the day will be spent paddling back to Isaac Creek. A sack lunch will be provided to take along the way. Camp setup will be completed upon arrival and the evening meal and festivities will be prepared. The big home-cooked evening meal will be provided by us. Rise Sunday morning to a cook-your-own breakfast (we provide food, fixings and equipment).

Depart Isaac Creek Campground Sunday morning and lock through the Claiborne Dam—an exciting but absolutely safe experience, and lots of fun in a group like this one. Arrive that afternoon at historic Claiborne landing for the shuttle back to the Isaac Creek where the farewell lunch awaits.

Expenses will be $85 including campsite for Friday and Saturday nights, shuttle, and locally prepared home cooking. Bring your own camp stove for coffee, tea, and your tent, sleeping bag, pad, as well as water bottles (mimimum one gallon per day). Water in the camp site is potable.
