Team In Training (TNT), The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) sports endurance program, is showing to the public Spirit of the Marathon June 16 at the Magic Bag Theatre in Ferndale. The inspirational film features the struggles, accomplishments and unique personal stories of six individuals training for the Chicago M...arathon.

Doors for this rare public viewing of the film will open at 6 p.m and the cost is free. A cash bar and free food will be available and attendees will have the chance to win a copy of the award-winning film that cannot be found in any video store.

Spirit of the Marathon is a collaborative effort of three-time Academy Award winner Mark Jonathan Harris, Telly Award winner and marathon runner Jon Dunham and producer Gwedolen Twist. It is also the first ever non-fiction film to capture the drama of a 26.2 mile marathon and was filmed on four continents in five countries.

“It is a good opportunity to see a movie that sells out whenever it is shown in cites throughout the county,” says Sarah Evitts, campaign coordinator for TNT. “It’s an inspirational film that has you leaving knowing that if you put forth the effort, you can accomplish anything, even in difficult times.”

Stars from the movie include: Dick Beardsley, Paula Radcliffe, Bill Rodgers, and Grete Waitz. Spirit of the Marathon received the Audience Award at the 2007 Chicago International Film Festival and was named Best Picture at the 2007 Mammoth Film Festival.

Spirit of the Marathon is rated PG and has something for the whole family, runners and non-runners alike. Before and after the movie, TNT staff will be present to answer questions about participating in the program, which offers various sporting events across the country.

The film’s showing also coincides with the inaugural National Running Day on June 3. a national initiative whereby many of the major organizations within the running industry are joining forces in an unprecedented unified effort to nationally and locally promote running as a healthy, easy, and accessible form of exercise.
