Magical Places

I read your interview with Michael Freeman with great interest as his book SUDAN was given to me for inspiration when I was embarking upon my book, KATANGA: Land of Copper. I spoke in detail with Vickie Butler about the project but as it turned out her schedule conflicted with the trip dates. And so I ended up writing ...it myself. It was an incredible experience - traveling in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for 8 wks, only 6 wks shy of the first democratic election in close to 40 years! Aided with a driver, guide and translator, my photographer and I gained access to many places that would not otherwise have been possible. Our publisher, like SUDAN was Marquand Books. Only 1500 copies were printed and of those I only have 5 copies left. Much of what Michael describes in his interview of shooting (photographs) in Africa, and during conflicted times was our experience as well.
