Fahrenheit 451
February 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27
All show times are 7:30 except Sunday, Feb. 21 which is a 2:00 curtain
Music Academy of Eastern Carolina, 1400 Red Banks Road, Greenville
Fahrenheit 451 is Ray Bradbury's classic novel-turned-play of censorship and defiance, as resonant today as it was when it was first publis...hed nearly 50 years ago.
Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires...
The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning ... along with the houses in which they were hidden.
Guy Montag enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames... never questioned anything until he met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid.
Then he met a professor who told him of a future in which people could think... and Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do!
"Frightening in its implications... Mr. Bradbury's account of this insane world, which bears many alarming resemblances to our own, is fascinating."

Andrew Have you thought about doing the musical "promises, promises" (1968)? since you did do "ruthless the musical" it sorta fits in the same theme of fun movies and songs... and seems easy to play and sing.

Auditions for Magnolia Arts Center's first theater production in 2010, Fahrenheit 451, will be held at the Music Academy of Eastern Carolina at 1400 Red Banks Road in Greenville on November 17 and 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held November 19 at the same location.
Ray Bradbury, the author... of the classic and timeless novel, “Fahrenheit 451”, adapted the book into a stageplay in 1986. Set in a world where firemen burn books and buildings rather than save them, the play remains even more timely today with the constant evolution of technology and its impact on society.
Rehearsals will start in the beginning of January 2010 up until the performance nights of Feb. 19-21 and 25-27. Actors auditioning should be prepared to commit to this schedule or note any and all conflicts when they audition.
We are currently looking for 7 men and 6 women, though there may be opportunities for other interested actors to play “book people”.
