Ana Menendez

Ana Menendez On November 28 and 29 I´m singing the soprano solo of "The Resurrection" at Teatro Argentino de La Plata in Argentina. I´m so happy! I love that symphony so much!!! Isn´t it sublime??? :-)

Rafael

Rafael Mahler composed sublime, astonishing music! I have to say that I loved his music from the very first time I heard it (1st symphony). As for my favorite work, I think that the 2nd,6th,9th, and Das Lied von der Erde are his greatest works, but I just can't choose between them.

Would you really consider the Kindertotenlieder to be as great a work as his symphonies? I agree that it's very beautiful, although it does seem like an unusual choice...but then again I've known a couple of people who said they love the Kindertotenlieder and the Ruckert-lieder and who supposedly hate everything else Mahler ever wrote. At this time... Read More at least I personally rate the symphonies that I listed more highly than the fifth, but nevertheless all of the symphonies are towering works of art. A few days ago I discovered Horenstein's version of the 8th and after that monumental climax at the end I couldn't help thinking to myself "My God! A miraculous work!" If you guys haven't listened to it yet I think you can find Horenstein's performance on youtube. At the very least you should search for the Chorus Mysticus.

I listened to that performance on NPR. Dudamel did a fantastic job. I feel like he is going to be a up coming Mahlerian.
