Maidstone Borough Council
Maidstone Museum is thinking big this October.
On October 28 the museum will hold its free Big Draw event, which this year is celebrating its 10th anniversary as a national campaign.
The museum has had a series of events to celebrate this year’s Big Draw event, which is being supported by Your Maidstone. Last Thursday (...October 15) a Tony Hart tribute was unveiled, the much-loved artist was a huge supporter of the Big Draw. Also those who take part in the activities on October 28 will be able to see their work in a new exhibition at the museum – called Cut it Out.
This year’s theme for the Big Draw is Animal Antics and there will be two free sessions on October 28 for children and adults to come along and take part.
From 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm people of all ages can be inspired by Darwin’s discoveries in the natural world, and also the Cut it Out exhibition, and create weird and wonderful creatures out of paper. Artist Ciara Healy, who is also featured in the Cut it Out exhibition, will be on hand to help create the mammoth collage.
Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Cllr Brian Moss, said: “This is a really exciting project – it’s going to be big and what’s more it’s free to take part. It also coincides with the half-term so we hope a lot of people will come along and take part. We’re after people of any age to put their mark of this piece of artwork, and from November 7 they will be able to see it displayed in the museum when the Cut it Out exhibition opens.”
