Fat is a real hot button in our culture, so watch out for the explosion when Big Moves Boston pushes that button--repeatedly--with its new two-person show, Wide Load, playing for one night only on Thursday, October 29, at the Mainline Theatre, 3997 rue St. Laurent, Montreal. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the curtain goe...s up at 8. Tickets are $10 , and available at the door or online.
Wide Load ("breaking the stage and taking names") is a high-energy, in-your-face carnival of fun and fat-assery, with full-out dance moves, blasts of song, fast and furious semi-autobiographical sketch comedy, blistering rants, and random slingshots of tasty snacks into the crowd. Big Moves veterans Marina Wolf Ahmad and Colette Gagnon have loaded their politics into a bright, bouncy vaudeville-style show, which means Wide Load tastes great and goes down easy. Originally created for the 2009 Montreal Fringe Festival (in which Big Moves didn't make the lottery pick), the hour-long show moves quickly and hits hard.
Big Moves Boston was awarded the Spirit of the Fringe award at the 2007 Montreal Fringe Festival, and the organization was selected by Boston Phoenix readers as the Best Dance Company in 2006. It is the only producing and training organization in the country dedicated to creating high-quality, multi-genre dance productions featuring performers of all sizes. In Boston, Big Moves is a fiscally sponsored project of the Boston Dance Alliance, a 501(c)3 organization.
