We seek the repeal of the Tennessee Constitutional Amendment passed in 2006 by voters that defines civil marriage as only between one man and one woman therefore denying equal marriage rights to gay and lesbian Tennesseans. Civil rights should NEVER be put to a popular vote. Do the right thing. End state-sanctioned discrimination. Support equality for ALL Tennesseans and ALL Americans.

This may sound sort of conspiracy theoryish, but has anyone looked into whether or not the vote count was clean? I live in a small town and our polls were bing run by a number of folks from the church who I know for a fact were all against gay marriage. In fact one of them approached me months before asking me to sign... a petition to which I refused. We didn't even have curtains on our voting booths! I've also heard some stories about people recieving plone calls telling them to vote on the wrong day.Read More

Michael Roggow This was a wake-up call for me. Whether or not we live in Maine, we should all be actively fighting for gay marriage there. I'm ready to go to work!

To all those in Maine who believe in equal rights for all-Do not lose heart. The enemy may have won the battle this time, but in the end they are going to lose the war. I'm from Canada and I saw it happen here. In the early part of this decade, our Federal Government voted to uphold traditional marriage. However, a ser...ies of Provincial Court Decisions starting in 2003 caused the Federal Government to rethink the issue and the result was the Federal Civil Marriage Act which was passed in 2005 making gay marriage legal in all of Canada. Our Prime Minister at the time, Paul Martin, was a practicing Roman Catholic but he did not let his beliefs stand in the way of doing the right thing. Too many people are using religion as an excuse for denying rights and that's just plain wrong. I'm a straight Christian and I support gay rights including the right to marry.Read More

Residents of the state of Maine have banned gay marriage. Somehow, I thought that this nation, or this state at the very least, was beginning to move past discrimination; I was wrong, and I'm honestly...

The lesson we learned last night in Maine is pretty simple: if you want to deny the right of gay people to get married, just put it to a popular vote. Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut---I believe they'd all vote it down, too, if given the opportunity. ...

I'm a straight 68 year old man from Canada who changed his mind and started to support gay rights including the right to marry after I turned 60. When I was in my 30's back in the 70's I was on the side of Anita Bryant and thought she was doing the right thing. Thanks to the internet, I was able to get to see more information and realized I had ... Read Morebeen misinformed and misled. After much reflection and sober second thought, I could see that discrimination against gays and lesbians was just plain wrong. I know two wonderful lesbians from California named Darlene and Becky and they are two of the nicest people you would ever want to know.

Edwin: Even if you didn't consider the "two lesbians you know" to be "wonderful" people, they would still deserve equal rights.

More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you then I would su...ggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me ...and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot." - VRead More

And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, ...but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? ...There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you...Read More
