Darwin’s Brave New World is the story of how four young voyagers to the southern hemisphere, Charles Darwin, Joseph Hooker, Thomas Huxley and Alfred Russel Wallace revolutionised science and gave birth to an extraordinary theory about the evolution of life on earth.

The point to note I think, is that from Greg Craven's point of view, he doesn't have to argue rationally. He is simply right and that's it. So he can be as flippant and aggravating as he wants, and he gets the atheists up in a lather. This isn't a debate for him, it is sport.
Lesson : Don't feed the monkey he has put on your back.

Taking
a leaf out of Kant... I see humanity as essentially rational beings
(yes: flawed, under-evolved, etc, but they're getting there). When one
takes up an irrational belief and subscribes to a religious doctrine, I
see it as giving up on what it is to be human. Rather than seeking a
reasoned analysis of phenomena as... t...hey are presented (the hard path), it is much easier to take the easy path ending with "therefore there is a god".Another
way of putting this is my "arrogance/ignorance" argument: "I am the
smartest creature on this planet. This phenomena before me is
incomprehensible, it is unknowable, therefore there must be a god". This
is the serious essence of my view on the subject. Now I shall revert
back to my scheduled Facebook programming: everything else I write will
be flippant and irreverent. that's what it's for, isn't it?Read More

Atheist Foundation of Australia Inc Russell Blackford, co-editor of '50 Voices of Disbelief' and one of the presenters at the Global Atheist Convention, discusses the importance of questioning religion:
Source: www.guardian.co.uk
Religious teachings promise us much — eternal life, spiritual salvation, moral direction, and a deeper understanding of reality. It all sounds good, but these teachings are also onerous in their demands. If they can't deliver on what they promise, it would be well to clear that up. Put bluntly, are ...

Ben Tankard How do you people feel about being an 'evangelical' atheist, that is, spreading the good work about God's non-existence? In my opinion, atheists should be challenging religious beliefs wherever encountered...any thoughts on that? Does that make us 'as bad as them'?

Just thought I'd share an essay I wrote, its very short and won't take up too much of anyone's time. Hopefully you all enjoy it.

Atheist Foundation of Australia Inc Have a read of the many letters published today in The Age, criticising Greg Craven's rabid and illogical opinion piece:
Source: www.atheistconvention.org.au
THANKS, Greg Craven (Comment & Debate, 4/11), for providing an academic example of an ad hominem argument - one which attacks the person instead of debating their ideas. Rather than comparing atheists to frogs and blowflies, a sound argument would account logically and factually for the existence of...

Atheist Foundation of Australia Inc "The cry that religious beliefs are not being treated respectfully often demonstrates incredible arrogance and hypocrisy."
Source: www.smh.com.au
Greg Craven attacks one of the terrible “infestations” we face today: being “beset by atheists”. Craven's article was remarkable for being almost entirely composed of ad hominem attacks on people who disagree with him. Incredibly, Craven declares that the “new atheism” is “so banally derivative of e...

Atheist Foundation of Australia Inc It’s hard to believe that an ex-Professor of Law and the current vice-chancellor of the Australian Catholic University could produce such a rant. Craven’s article is so bizarrely rabid, illogical, vitriolic, unfunny, misguided, bigoted and insulting that he is bringing shame upon himself, his faith and his educational institution...

Source: www.theage.com.au
Catholics, and other faith-based groups in Australia, are entitled to their moral beliefs and to the expression of these through the institutions they run. But women have a right to health-care provision that does not put them at the mercy of those views, and the health-care information and options...
