Marcus Buckingham The genetics of thrills: Lilia & I are both freaked out by roller-coasters. Jack & @jane_buckingham are terrified by twirling teacups.

Marcus Buckingham Jack's tall enough to ride alone, but wants to ride with me. May be the last time he makes that choice. Now I'm happiest dad on earth.

Marcus Buckingham The weirdest thing: a gaggle of professional 'laughers' in the corner. After each joke...manic cackle. The audience IS the performance.

Marcus Buckingham Just left a crazy swing party. Flappers, fedoras, spats & an Al Jolson impersonator. The Charlston is still silly but in LA it's BACK.

Hooray for swing parties, but, on the face of it (no pun intended; just mean of course I couldn't actually see the act), an Al Jolson impersonator seems in poor taste. He was undoubtedly dubbed a great entertainer by many, but I think a swing event could have been complete without an Al Jolson impersonator. Sorry for the soapbox.

Marcus Buckingham @deborahh i'm sure you're right. but why does this insight require suffering. it seems harsh. and that silly word: unfair.

Marcus Buckingham The days of a friend, struggling to live w the indignity of disease, are a trial for her; an inspiration to those who love her. Why?

she is living life on her terms, not the disease's terms. when we continue to choose OUR life over something inflicted upon us, we win.

I think we obtain clues about how to deal with our own struggles by watching others deal with theirs. Not all who struggle incite inspiration, but those that do teach us something about courage, and the power of the human spirit to prevail over all circumstances. There is nothing more powerful. To be a witness to that kind of grace in a human being-- I am grateful and humbled...and newly empowered to meet my own challenges...
