You could use different fonts for different characters. #2 is easier to read though.

The shading in #2 is better, but most of the page is grey. Is there a happy medium between 1 and 2?

You can scan in your basic hand-inked rough and then experiment with them in a paint program. :)

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback! I like #1 the best, too, but #2 and #4 were the most fun to draw, and #2 is possibly the most appropriate for the subject matter. Still experimenting though.
