Meanwhile, Living Craft natural building apprenticeship on the final week of a 3 month apprenticeship just finish plastered the inside of an cob home (built of earth) and it looks gorgeous. The Soil Food Web course is a "go" and we'...re all excited to learn about the mysteries of the soil and magic of compost teas with Dr. Ingham.

Quail Springs Learning Oasis and Permaculture Farm CARBON ECONOMY SPEAKER AND EDUCATION SERIES COMES TO SANTA BARBARA

Food and farming relocalization, sustainable land management, and green development

SANTA BARBARA, CA – The Carbon Economy Series brings inspiring speakers and expert teachers to the Santa Barbara area this fall to share on the farming and food relocaliza...tion movement, sustainable land management, green development, and systems design approaches that benefit the environment, while resulting in greater productivity and resiliency for the practitioner, economy, and community. Speakers include Joel Salatin, Gunter Pauli, Dr. Elaine Ingham, and Darren Doherty. The series is convened by Quail Springs and Orella Ranch, with local and national partners.

Special One Night Public Events:

• Gunter Pauli, famous eco-entrepreneur and passionate proponent of green development worldwide, will speak on revitalizing our economy with creative systems thinking. Co-sponsored by Santa Barbara City College Center for Sustainability and Santa Barbara Permaculture Network, as part of the Carbon Economy Series. December 5, 2009, 7pm at SBCC West Campus, Fe Bland Auditorium.

• Joel Salatin, recipient of the Heinz Award for Environmental Leadership, full time family farmer of the highly successful Polyface Farms, author, and one of world’s leading proponents of farming and food relocalization, will challenge the audience to engage in the relocalization movement through his direct, honest and inspiring experience. December 9, 2009, evening, in Santa Barbara, venue TBA.

Carbon Economy Trainings: These trainings provide real world, applicable solutions for land owners and managers to improve their yields, maintain soil health, and provide authentic environmental improvement, and for business people, students, and citizens to revitalize community and local economy.

• Sustainable Land Management, including Holistic Resources Mgmt, Broadacre Permaculture, and Keyline Design – with expert practitioners Darren Doherty and Kirk Gadzia (2 part training): November 10 – 15, 2009

• Soil Food Web, Compost & Compost Tea Technologies with renowned soil microbiologist, Dr. Elaine Ingham: October 30 – November 1, 2009

• Zero Emissions Research & Initiatives (ZERI) Technologies and Applications, with ecopreneur and systems thinker, Gunter Pauli: December 3-5, 2009

• Pathways to Relocalization, with family farmer, author, and advocate, Joel Salatin: December 9 – 11, 2009

These courses... offer an important opportunity for the farming and agricultural community to stay on the cutting edge of the quickly evolving world of soil health, environmental protection and financial health of family farms,” say Gail and Gene Zannon owners of Santa Barbara Pistachio Company, a local family run farm.

The courses are convened and sponsored by Quail Springs Permaculture Farm and Orella Ranch. Cosponsors include Santa Barbara City College Center for Sustainability, Santa Barbara Permaculture Network, LoaTree, El Capitan Canyon Resort, and Edible San Luis Obispo, with a host of local and national network partners.

The main venue will be Orella Ranch (www.orellaranch.com) north of Santa Barbara, CA on the Gaviota Coast.
