Mark Schauer The Battle Creek Democrat visited Mark Kies’ farm in Allen and spoke with about 30 individuals, most of whom were involved with the agriculture industry. “I want to get our economy going,” Schauer said. “I want to create jobs.” During the discussion topics ranged from managing the cost of healthcare to the price of milk and its effect on local dairy farmers.

A bill that includes $7.7 million for the Fort Custer Training Center is heading to the U.S. House. The House Appropriations Committee voted to pass the bill Wednesday. The money for Fort Custer is among budget requests made by Rep. Mark Schauer, D-Bedford Township.
