Martin Schulz
Friends,
Here is a chance for you to shape EU policy. We are inviting policy ideas and we'll send the best of them to the European Commission in a document we'll publish next year.
By summer 2010, an EU summit will adopt a new 10-year economic, social and environmental strategy for Europe. The European Commission calls ......this the EU 2020 strategy. We, as the European Parliament’s main progressive force, want to shape that strategy and call on you to share your ideas for Europe with us. In what kind of society do you want to live? Which challenges and opportunities will we face in the coming decade? How can we best address them?
To start the debate we now present a working paper based on our belief that Europe must be more than a market. Our aim is to lead Europe out of unemployment, recession and inequality into a new age of prosperity and opportunity. We envisage a Europe in which people will embrace and benefit from a new green lifestyle. Our new sustainable lifestyle in Europe will lead the world and respond to the challenges of globalisation and climate change in a way that safeguards future generations. We want to create ten million jobs within a decade, three million of them in the green economy, and end homelessness by 2015. Eradicating poverty will be a central goal and we will work for a coordinated European housing strategy. Improving skills and harnessing the potential of technology will be important tools. So, every young person leaving the education system will be offered a high-quality training course that meets their needs and every citizen will have access to broadband. The primary aim of EU policy should be to improve people's quality of life. Our proposals flesh out that objective with simple, practical policy ideas. http://tinyurl.com/ydhh5sb
We invite you to give us feedback. What do you think about our proposals? What ideas do you think should be added? Share your ideas and your vision for Europe in 2020 with us. The best proposals we receive will be submitted to the European Commission as an annex to our policy framework.
