Information

Website:
Influences:
The Jam, Karate, Frank Rich, Ted Leo + the Pharmacists, Arianna Huffington, Public Enemy, Crass, GBV, Juliana Hatfield, Sleater-Kinney, Los Crudos, The Cars, Walter Schreifels/Quicksand/Rival Schools, Husker Du, Bad Religion, more.
Band Interests:
Turning political junkies who don't care for music onto punk rock. Making punk rockers who don't care for politics have a sense of civic involvement.

We quit bands that had record labels, managers, etc. to be in this band. We don't really believe that we can make records and do a song a week about urgent matters when the sense of urgency and chance to act can be shorter than the time it takes to manufacture 1000 cds.

Thus, we have all our songs available for free download at our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/maxandthemarginalized.) Look for the download links.) There is a PayPal donation button - we ask that if you like the songs and want to keep them that you drop some change in our bucket, as it costs us about $250 a week these days to keep doing these songs every week. Thank you!
Biography:
"Someone asked me how long the band was going to write and record a song a week. I said 'why would we stop?' Operating as a kind of op-ed piece in the form of a rock band, Los Angeles based Max and the Marginalized have been writing and recording a song a week and releasing them immediately on left-wing blog hub The Huffington Post and on their MySpace page.

In an age where the news cycle has sped up and the album cycle has slowed down, Max felt it was the only way to make relevant political mu... (read more)
Go download some songs at our songs page on the honor system! We have 37 songs available for download there - consider this paypal button a tip jar. If you can afford to give us $.50-$2.00 per song, please do. If you can't, please download them anyway. Thanks!

Is it worth showing up and hearing them play from outside the venue? You can hear the music pretty well from outside the venue...

I think that jokes about John McCain’s age are funny. My band made a borderline-offensive music video where he has old-man tremors in his bathrobe. That said, I don’t actually think that McCain’s age makes him physically or mentally incapable of leading effectively, and any serious efforts to express that will probably backfire. Seeing this similarly [...]

When I was 13, I used to call an individual I didn’t like a “Dicknuts”. This seems apt: “While emphasizing the disparate estimates about how close Saddam was to a nuclear bomb, Rice was saying that the CIA would not necessarily know when Saddam acquired one. She was warning that we might not learn this until [...]

Here’s a good one. Will King, an Army Staff Sergeant who served in Afghanistan who had been diagnosed with mild PTSD, felt that his conditions were worsening. Unemployed, failing out of school and entertaining suicidal thoughts, he filed a disability claim with the VA to have his PTSD upgraded from mild to moderate. They denied his claim, [...]
The people who made this site are genius. Props.

Hello friends of the Marginalized: Life is a telethon. Well, no it’s not at all a telethon, but some things in life do require one. We are going on tour next month. When The Actual, my old band, first went on tour in the fall of 2001, gas prices were at an average of $1.25/gallon. We made [...]

Videos page! 1:45am

I added a new page with all our videos. Enjoy!
You really open yourself up to things like this brilliant mashup from JedReport.com or big McCain disagreeing with little McCain.

It’s another Thursday so that means another song! This week is on McCain being worse than Bush on the war and other military/vet issues, as they have identical policies but McCain’s gravitas and carte-blanche-for-endless-war POW status make it that much easier for him to jam this war down our throats for another four years. We wanted [...]

I’m glad to see that The Secret has become (seemingly) less popular. We all knew it couldn’t last, but a self-help movement that encourages people to lose weight by averting their gazes from fat people deserves far worse than a commercial downtick, or this really stupid parody I made. [...]
