Speaking of Jorvik . . . I'm a Celticist but my personal descent is mixed with Polish and Irish predominating. There is a piece of art work widely identified as Celtic (sorry, my books are all boxed: no citation!) widely identified as Celtic which features a stolid looking man-as-pillar. Discovered Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa (Warsaw Village BAnd), a folk-trance band (they're great!) who use this same pillar in a YouTube posted piece labeled Polish Viking music from Jorvik.

I was in England and France last month and visited Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral and Notre Dame; there is such jaw dropping beauty in these buildings that you can't help but feel the awe inspiring and humbling power when you step inside them. Places of worship aren't made like that in this day and age ---- it's a pity.
