'new zealand's finest guitarist and vocalist team up for a night of acoustic songwriter collaborations'.
Oakley Grenell
Grenell, a ...considerable musical force in his homeland of Aotearoa is an accomplished guitarist, producer, and seasoned performer, having just released his 7th album in NZ, with one of his many projects Departure Lounge he now returns to Australia with one of New Zealand’s accomplished singer / songwriters, Julia Deans.
Last year Grenell released his second solo album ‘Moving On’ in Australia and has had the pleasure of performing to Australian audiences on several occasions, including recently alongside the Nomad, Johnny Toogood (Shihad) and is booked to play some fantastic future shows and festivals. Peats Ridge (Sydney Dec 29), The Basement (Sydney Jan 15).
Julia Deans
Hailing from Christchurch Julia's stunning voice has been ever present in the last 10 years with band Fur Patrol now based in Melbourne. Her writing talent was rewarded early on, gaining the APRA award for most performed work in New Zealand for song 'Lydia'. Currently working on her solo album, Julia has undeniably one of NZ’s most remarkable voices.
Deans is able to shift elegantly between soaring falsetto and assured growl. As a solo artist she takes to the stage as she began - armed only with an acoustic guitar, vocal chords and a cheeky grin.
This stripped back mode highlights the idiosyncratic beauty of her songwriting and gives her voice room to really stretch itself.
