berg The Chinese have been engineering the weather for years and plans to geoengineer the climate to delay climate change are in the works, so is it any surprise that a proposal to build a huge artificial mountain in Berlin is gaining public support?

Public art shows that we respect and appreciate our community. It draws attention to a neighborhood in a good way. I think it says something about the community in general: hey, we care about the place where we live, come see how great our neighborhood is. Chicago is one of my favorite cities for public art. You can see sculptures and murals by masters, and the public respects them. It instills pride in the city.

Urban Art Commission A few years ago I had an idea to create sculpture gardens in Memphis,
with citizen groups buying up City-owned tax parcels and using them for
public art purposes. I wrote about it on my blog, Weeden Arts Watch in
July 2007. The link to the tax sale application is currently being
revamped, so you will have to contact the of...fice indicated instead and ask for a printed or digital list of tax parcels available, application, and payment information.

oooo cool to see this on here :) One thing about the one we have in Des Moines is that it is situated between 2 busy roads downtown and near many businesses where people work basically situated in a gateway to the city and easy to find-- so I think many people go to it that might not otherwise make a trip to go see sculptures.. if you want any more pics of it let me know.. I would be happy to take some for you!
I think something like this is Memphis would be fantastic!

Urban Art Commission Fifty years ago, in 1959, the City of Philadelphia was home to a groundbreaking idea. For the first time ever, the City of Philadelphia required that certain urban renewal projects use one percent of their construction budgets to commission original and site-specific public art. Percent for Art programs, produce art in... public places as a means of humanizing and enlivening the urban environment!

Urban Art Commission MCA and MPACT Memphis are hosting their 2nd Annual Creative Conversation on 29 October 2009. It's free, from 5:30-8:30p. Creative Conversations are local gatherings of emerging leaders in communities across the country and are part of a grassroots movement to elevate the profile of arts in America during National Arts ...& Humanities Month every October. Started in 2004, some of these local convenings have grown into cohesive, organized emerging leader networks. This local tool empowers emerging leaders to take a leadership role in their own community by both designing programming and galvanizing their peers to connect professionally.
