Mennonite Central Committee Great Lakes November and December are months of reflection moving us toward the celebration of Christ’s birth! December 1st is also a day marked around the world by those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Whether someone close to us is living with HIV or not, 33 million people around the world are infected and this does affect us....

As Jesus calls us to care for those on the margins of society, the church is responding both in North America and around the world to the crisis. Local churches reach out by offering home-based care for the sick, education and meals for orphans and vulnerable children, and prevention activities in communities and schools. Mennonite Central Committee, the relief and development arm of Mennonite churches in Canada and the USA supports these efforts by providing much needed material and financial resources as well as training for young people, community health and home-based care workers, pastors and church leaders in order to mitigate the spread of HIV and support those infected and affected by the virus.

MCC Great Lakes encourages you and your church to high-light HIV/AIDS issues and the ways in which you are responding to the crisis through the work of MCC. As the global community continues to struggle with thereality that every day 7,400 people are newly infected with HIV, may we bring amessage of hope, God’s love and care for all, and our commitment to eradicatingthis disease to those within our reach.
